Rockabilly Music

Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, dating back to the early 1950s in the United States, especially the South. As a genre it blends the sound of Western musical styles such as country with that of rhythm and blues,[1][2] leading to what is considered “classic” rock and roll.[3] Some have also described it as a blend of bluegrass with rock and roll.[4] The term “rockabilly” itself is a portmanteau of “rock” (from “rock ‘n’ roll”) and “hillbilly“, the latter a reference to the country music (often called “hillbilly music” in the 1940s and 1950s) that contributed strongly to the style. Other important influences on rockabilly include western swingboogie woogiejump blues, and electric blues.[5]

Defining features of the rockabilly sound included strong rhythms, vocal twangs, and common use of the tape echo;[6] but progressive addition of different instruments and vocal harmonies led to its “dilution”.[2] Initially popularized by artists such as Johnny CashBill HaleyBuddy HollyElvis PresleyCarl PerkinsBob Luman, and Jerry Lee Lewis,[7] the influence and success of the style waned in the 1960s; nonetheless, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, rockabilly enjoyed a major revival. An interest in the genre endures even in the 21st century, often within a subculture. Rockabilly has left a legacy, spawning a variety of sub-styles and influencing other genres such as punk rock.[6]  (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Motown Favorites

Motown is an American record company. The record company was founded by Berry Gordy Jr. as Tamla Records on January 12, 1959, and was incorporated as Motown Record Corporation on April 14, 1960, in DetroitMichigan.[3] The name, a portmanteau of motor and town, has also become a nickname for Detroit. Motown played an important role in the racial integration of popular music as an African American-owned record label that achieved significant crossover success. In the 1960s, Motown and its subsidiary labels (including Tamla Motown, the brand used outside the US) were the most successful proponents of what came to be known as the Motown Sound, a style of soul music with a distinct pop influence. During the 1960s, Motown achieved spectacular success for a small record company: 79 records in the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100 record chart between 1960 and 1969. Beef Curry Meatballs in Pumpkin Carrot Curry Sauce

I am in the Fall Food Mode, that means more meals with thick warm sauces and luscious spices.  This is a wonderful warm you up spicy curry dish.

INGREDIENTS

Meatballs

  • Olive oil
  • 3 onions chopped
  • 2 jalapeños, seeds removed (if desired)
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 1 1-inch piece ginger, peeled, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 eggs beaten to blend
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 2 teaspoons basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon pasley
  • 2 pounds ground beef (20% fat)
  • 3 tablespoons ranch dressing
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • ½ cup panko bread crums

Curry Sauce

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 4 medium onions, chopped
  • 10 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 1½-inch piece ginger, peeled, chopped (or Ginger powder)
  • 3 teaspoons rosemary
  • 4 teaspoons curry powder
  • 4 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 4 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 3 tablespoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 can pumpkin
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt,(or more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Cilantro leaves with tender stems (for serving)

RECIPE PREPARATION

Meatballs

  • Preheat oven to 385°. Lightly brush a rimmed baking sheet with oil. Purée onions, jalapeños, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, rosemary, basil, parsley, coriander, cumin, and cayenne in a blender until smooth. Transfer mixture to a large bowl and add beef, egg, ranch dressing, panko bread crumbs and salt. Mix with your hands until mixture is homogenous and starts to become very sticky like sausage meat, about 1 minute. Using a 2-oz. ice cream scoop to portion if you like, roll beef mixture into golf ball–size portions and place on baking sheet, spacing 1″ apart (you should have about 24). Drizzle meatballs with more oil and bake until browned on top and cooked through, 30–35 minutes. (I like to turn the meatballs once and you can also use olive oil spray instead of regular olive oil)

Curry Sauce

  • Meanwhile, heat oil in a large Dutch oven or other heavy pot over medium. Add onions, carrots,  garlic, and ginger and cook, stirring often, until onions are translucent and starting to brown, 8–10 minutes. Stir in  curry powder, cumin, turmeric, coriander, and peppercorns. Cook, stirring often, until mixture is very fragrant and spices begin to stick to the pot, about 2 minutes.  Put mixture into blender.  Blend until smooth. Transfer curry mixture back to pot. Stir in lemon juice, pumpkin, coconut milk and cayenne; taste sauce and season with more salt if needed. Simmer 20-25 minutes.

  • Gently nestle cooked meatballs into sauce, bring to a simmer, and cook until meatballs are heated all the way through, 10–15 minutes. Serve topped with cilantro. (Remove Basil Leaf before serving)

  • This is an excellent dish to serve over Balsamic Rice, I like to add Turmeric

to the rice for color and garlic pepper and sea salt.  If you want a more exotic flavor, try a peppermint tea bag in the rice. Remove the bag after cooked.
